A photograph of children playing at the Foundling Site Playing Fields, London, taken by Bishop Marshall for the Daily Herald newspaper on 27 July, 1936. A little girl enjoys playing on the slide. Meanwhile, a young boy seems to be taking advantage of the distraction caused by the photographer to try and hit her. The Foundling Hospital in London, established in 1739 by Thomas Coram (1668-1751), cared for orphaned, poor and homeless children. Today, the organisation 'Coram Family' continues to work with very vulnerable children. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
